All borders sealed, shelter homes set up across Gurgaon

Gurgaon: In a move to stop the exodus of migrant workers, police have sealed the state and district borders. Workers are being diverted to shelter homes set up by government agencies at different places across Gurgaon. The authorities so far have set up around 33 shelter homes in the city and industrial area of Manesar.
The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran has converted 18 community centres into shelter homes for migrant workers. Workers are being supplied cooked food at these shelter homes and medical teams are also keeping an eye on them.
Gurgaon MLA Sudhir Singla said the exodus has stopped after the government sealed all borders. “All state and district borders have been sealed and it has helped in stopping movement of workers. This will help in checking spread of coronavirus,” he said. Singla also urged people to stay at home and help in ensuring complete lockdown to defeat Covid-19.
Singla said several social organisations are providing food to the needy in Gurgaon. “Many shelter homes have been set up by authorities where migrant workers are being provided cooked food and accommodation. Arrangements have been made for giving them shelter, food and medicine. They won’t face any problems,” Singla said.
Police have also set up checkposts on major roads. “Sufficient arrangements have been made for mgrant workers. Police are working round the clock to ensure compliance of lockdown without causing much discomfort to residents,” commissioner of police Mohammad Akil said.
