Another case of yellow rust attack reported in Yamunanagar village


YAMUNANAGAR: Yet another farmer on Shivalik foothills Joginder Singh of Mughalwali village in Bilaspur block of Yamunanagar district has complained of yellow rust attack in around 3 acres of his wheat crop, to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Haryana.
Joginder had sown HD-2967 variety of wheat crop and this is the third case of yellow rust attack which has been reported in the Ambala division comprising Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, and Yamunanagar districts.
Earlier, the farmers from Raipur Rani area in Panchkula and Naraingarh area in Ambala have also reported the yellow rust attack.
On Tuesday, after receiving a complaint from Joginder, a team of agriculture officials under guidance of block technology manager (BTM) Balkar Singh visited his field for inspection and confirmed the attack of yellow rust.
Yamunanagar assistant plant protection officer (APPO), Rakesh Kumar Jangra said, “On Tuesday, our team visited the wheat field of farmer Joginder Singh in Mughalwali village in Bilaspur block, where the confirmed traces of yellow rust have been found. The farmer has reported the case well in time and a spray of medicine namely Propiconazole 25% EC @ 200 ml in 200 liters of water has been conducted in his field. The second spray will be conducted after 15 days. The recent rain has also washed away the disease from wheat. It is coming to crop on foothills of Shivalik due to favourable weather conditions.”
When asked about any other case in Yamunanagar district, APPO Rakesh said, “So far, we have not received any other complaint of yellow rust from Yamunanagar district.”
Talking about precautionary measures, APPO Rakesh said, “All the block level agriculture officers have been instructed regularly to visit wheat fields in their respective areas and wherever they find any traces of yellow rust to recommend the medicine to farmers.”
Yamunanagar deputy director agriculture (DDA) Surender Singh Yadav said, “The situation is under control and no other case has been reported in the district.”
