Factory in way of Dwarka e-way alignment razed

Gurgaon: Inching closer to clearing the obstacles in the way of widening of the link road connecting Hero Honda Chowk to Dwarka Expressway, HSVP demolished a manufacturing unit in Basai on Thursday.
The unit, constructed over 2,000 sqm of land, had a stay on demolition from the Punjab and Haryana high court since 2011. The court vacated the stay to clear the way for a six-lane road on January 31.
“We demolished the structure. Now, one of the obstacles coming in the way of the road widening project has been removed,” junior engineer Sandeep Lot said, adding that work on the project is already underway. Around 15 houses in Basai and one temple still fall in the way. The house owners have got a stay over the demolition.
The road from Hero Honda Chowk to Dwarka Expressway is being upgraded to have six lanes with two flyovers, one underpass and one railway overbridge. The project is being carried out by NHAI, while MCG will share a certain portion of the project cost.
The road, which provides access to sectors 9, 10 and 37 and adjoining areas, is a crucial link to NH-8 from Rohtak, Jhajjar and Dwarka Expressway via Basai Road. Besides, it is used by residents of Old Gurgaon as an alternative route to reach NH-8. The road often witnesses jams due to heavy traffic of commercial and private vehicles.
Several new sectors are being developed in the area. Once they are occupied, it is expected to add to the traffic volume.
Traffic on this road increased significantly after the flyover and underpass at Hero Honda Chowk were completed.
