Five rob Ambala jewellery shop at gunpoint


AMBALA: Armed miscreants on Wednesday evening robbed a jeweller of cash, gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs in Barara town of Ambala district.
According to the police, five armed men riding three motorcycles without number plates came to the shop around 5pm and three of them entered the shop and took jeweller Narender Kumar at gunpoint.
“They robbed him of cash, gold, and silver jewellery worth lakhs. The robbers also took away the DVRs (digital video recorders) of the CCTV cameras installed at the shop. While fleeing, they fired three-four rounds in the air and sped off on their motorcycles through the grain market. The jeweller is assessing the loss, so we are yet to receive the details about the exact loss that he suffered,” said Barara SHO sub-inspector Virender Kumar.
On the complaint of the jeweller, a case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 395 (dacoity) of the IPC and under the provisions of the Arms Act at the Barara police station.
The SHO added that the CCTV cameras installed in the market area are being scanned to see whether the robbers were caught in the same and the cameras in the grain market area would be inspected on Thursday morning.
Sources said Barara DSP Rajneesh Kumar reached the crime spot after about an hour of the incident.
