For seventh day on the trot, Gurugram adds less than 100 cases


GURUGRAM: The city on Thursday reported 83 new Covid-19 cases. This is the seventh day in a row that the city has been recording less than 100 fresh cases. At present, Covid cases in Gurugram stand at 9,481.
The health department said 91 people recovered from Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,639. However, no Covid death occurred in the city on Thursday, officials said. So far, 125 people have died of Covid in the city of whom 87 had comorbidities.
So far,1,21,290 people have been put under surveillance in the district. The health department has sent 1,15,440 samples for testing, of which 1,03,389 turned out to be negative, while the results of 1,246 are still awaited.
On Thursday, two people were put under government quarantine. The district has a total of 717 active cases, of which 565 are under home isolation. The health authorities were able to collect 2,570 samples in the past 24 hours for antigen and RT-PCR tests.
The city is conducting more RT-PCR tests than antigen test. On Wednesday, the district was able to conduct more than 1,000 RT-PCR tests. The department also confirmed that it is witnessing a downward trend in the rate of infection in Gurugram. On Thursday, the district conducted 1,251 RT-PCR tests.
According to the health department, the decision to conduct more RT-PCR tests was taken in view of the National Centre for Disease Control’s sero-survey report last month that there has been wrong results reported through rapid antigen tests. “We are aiming to conduct minimum 2,000 tests daily which will include both antigen and RT-PCR. Our rate of infection is low. We have witnessed a downward trend of infection in the last one month. As people are stepping out they need to take precaution, maintain social distancing and wear masks,” said a senior health department official.
With reports of 755 new cases in Haryana on Thursday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state reached 39,303. Meanwhile, three patients succumbed to coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total deaths to 458.
Faridabad, which has now surpassed Gurugram in the number of cases in a district, received the highest number of 161 cases during the day. Ambala reported 78, Rohtak 60, Panchkula 54, Sonipat 51, Rewari 48, Hisar 36, Kurukshetra 36, Karnal 34, Yamunagar 24 and Panipat 22.
Haryana now has 6,205 active cases, while 32,640 have been discharged after recovery. The doubling rate of Covid-19 cases has been recorded to be 27 days.
Till Thursday, 6,97,779 people had been tested in the state, while 60,028 are under surveillance. As many as 113 patients are currently on oxygen support and 14 are on ventilators in the state.
