Gurugram: Nine deaths take Covid-19 toll to 46; only 21 had comorbidities


GURUGRAM: The city reported its highest number of Covid-19 deaths in a day, with nine people succumbing to the infection on Tuesday.
Besides this, another 205 people tested positive for the virus, bringing the district’s tally to 3,682. At present, Gurugram has 1,721 active cases.
As per the health department, among those dead were five men and four women. Six of them had comorbidities. They were in the age group of 42 to 70 years, said a health department official.
So far, 46 people in the city have died of Covid-19. Of these, 21 people had comorbidities. Gurugram has the highest number of Covid deaths without comorbidities. Among other districts, Faridabad has reported 38 Covid-19 deaths, out of which 27 had comorbidities.
Sonipat has witnessed seven Covid-19 deaths, out of which four had existing conditions.
Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association vice-president (Haryana chapter) Naresh Sharma pointed out that as Gurugram and Faridabad have more people with comorbid conditions, the two districts have reported more Covid deaths. The patients who died had conditions such as diabetes, cardiac issues, hypertension, anxiety and others, he added.
So far, 118 people have died in Haryana due to Covid-19. The three districts of Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat account for a big chunk of this – 91.
The health department said 139 people recovered from Covid in Gurugram on Tuesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,915. Almost all the recovered cases were in home isolation with mild or asymptomatic conditions, as per health department data.
Gurugram reported its first case on March 16. The first major spike in the city was reported on May 6 when 17 people, most of them linked to Azadpur mandi, tested positive and the cases jumped to 104. The city went past the 200 mark on May 17 and the 300 mark on May 26. Thereafter, over a hundred cases were recorded daily, and since June, more than 200 most days.
Meanwhile, Faridabad reported 174 more cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the district’s tally to 1,580. Five people succumbed to the infection too.
