Gurugram’s Covid tally crosses 9,000, but growth rate slows


GURUGRAM: The city on Friday added 78 new Covid cases, taking the tally to 9,067.
Gurugram added the last 1,000 cases in 9 days, slower than it took to go from 6k to 7k and from 7k to 8k. After the spike in early June, the city started adding fewer cases every day, with not a single 200-plus day in July. The last seven days, especially, saw the some of the month’s lowest daily additions.
Ever since the city hit the 4,000-mark, its growth rate hovered in the 11% to 12.5% range, worse than Haryana’s current growth rate of 2.5%, but much lower than the rate at which it was adding cases till mid-June (20%).
The current doubling rate in the city is 50.9 days.
Gurugram took 76 days to get to 1000 cases, eight days to cross the 2000-mark, five days to cross 3000 cases, six days to cross 4000 cases, eight days to cross 5000 cases, nine days to cross 6000 cases, eight days to cross 7000 cases, eight days again to cross 8000 cases, and nine days to cross 9000 cases.
The health department said 107 people recovered from Covid-19 in Gurugram on Friday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,983. One person succumbed to the infection in Gurugram the same day, taking the city’s toll to 123. Of these, 85 people had comorbidities.
Overall, 10,3818 samples have been tested in the city, of which 92,736 were negative. In the last 24 hours, 2015 samples were collected for antigen and RT-PCR tests. Gurugram’s positivity rate stands at 8.5%.
The district has 961 active cases, of which 777 are in home isolation.
Meanwhile, Faridabad on Friday added 176 cases and its tally stands at 8,655. It has recorded 131 Covid deaths, and has 1,230 active cases.
