One arrested for giving shelter to Tablighi Jamaat members in Ambala


AMBALA: Police arrested one Mohammad Najim of Shivpuri Colony, Mahesh Nagar in Ambala Cantonment area on Sunday, for allegedly giving shelter to Tablighi Jamaat participants during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The arrested accused was presented in a local court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody, said the Ambala police.
On April 2, on the complaint of Rajesh, security inspector Ambala, a case against 11 identified accused, including nine foreign nationals and two Indians was registered at Mahesh Nagar police station. The case was lodged under section 7 (obligation of hotel keepers and others to furnish particulars), sections 8 (determination of nationality), 14B (violation of the conditions of the valid visa), of the Foreigners Act, and 188 (disobedience of orders of public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease danger­ous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 271 (disobedience of quarantine rule) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Earlier on May 1, nine foreign nationals including eight from Nepal and one from Sri Lanka were arrested and sent to judicial custody as per court orders by the Ambala police.
Ambala Cantonment DSP Ram Kumar said, “Accused Najim has been arrested for providing shelter to the Tablighi Jamaat workers in violation of the lockdown norms. On Friday, nine foreign nationals were arrested and sent to jail as per court orders. One more Indian person was booked in this case but during our investigation, it came to light that he was not involved. So his name will be deducted from the case, and rest all 10 arrests have been made in this case.”
