One held for targeting job aspirants in Gurugram, robbing them

GURUGRAM: A man was arrested from Sector 40 on Tuesday for allegedly robbing job aspirants after asking them to meet him for an interview.
According to the police, the man — identified as Vishal Kumar — used a unique modus operandi to rob people. His arrest came following a complaint filed by a city resident, who alleged that Kumar had robbed her after asking her to meet him at a restaurant for a job interview in September, at New Colony police station.
The woman, in her complaint, told police that she had come across an advertisement offering job on a social media site. When she contacted on the given phone number, it was answered by the man, who identified himself as Vishal Sharma.
“He asked me to meet him at a restaurant for an interview on September 21. On reaching there, I found him waiting outside in his car. He asked me to leave my mobile, hand bag and other belongings in his car before entering the restaurant. After talking for a few minutes, he excused himself saying that he had to go the washroom. I kept waiting, but he didn’t return. When I stepped out of the restaurant to check if he’s in his car, I found that he had fled with my belongings,” the woman said.
After weeks of investigation, the crime unit of Sector 40 managed to arrest Vishal on Tuesday. Police recovered a car, mobile phone, two laptops and other stolen items from his possession. He admitted to have committed two more such crimes in the city.
“The accused used to lure victims through social media posts about job opening and asked them to meet at a restaurant where he used to use the same modus operandi and flee with their belongings,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
