Only 15 containment zones left in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: With a steady decline in the daily addition of Covid-19 cases, which has stayed below the 100 mark, and only 600-odd cases currently active, the district administration on Monday brought down the number of containment zones in the city from 72 to 15.
Moreover, the period of containment has also been reduced from 28 to 14 days. With this rule tweak, a containment zone can now be de-notified two weeks after the last Covid-19 patient recovers.
A month ago, there were more than 100 containment zones in the city. In the past 10 days, since the last containment order was released, 605 Covid cases have been recorded. In sharp contrast, the period between July 16 and August 1 saw 1,816 cases.
“The reason that the number of containment zones has fallen drastically is that the Haryana government has adopted the guidelines of the Union ministry of health and family welfare, which has reduced the containment period. Moreover, the average number of daily cases has also dropped, to less than 100. On some days, there are less than 60 cases too,” said Dr MP Singh, nodal officer of containment zones, district health department.
No new areas have been added to the list released by the administration. The zones retained include floors 16, 17, 18 of tower A in The Villa (DLF 2), houses 9/19 to 9/30, houses J5 to J16, houses J9/10 to J9/20, houses 6/6 to 6/16 in DLF 2; lanes 1 to 15, opposite Kings Bridge Play School in Hans Enclave; lane U 26, lane U27, lane U-28 (DLF Phase-3); lanes 1 and 2 in Shiv Vihar (Rajiv Nagar) and lanes 1 to 4 in Shivaji Nagar.
On Monday, Gurgaon reported 57 new Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 9,771, out of which 657 are active. A total of 63 patients recovered on the day too, taking the number of recoveries to 8,989. The recovery rate in the district is now 91.9%. Gurgaon’s Covid toll stands at 125, out of which 87 patients had comorbidities.
In Faridabad, 153 people tested positive for Covid-19. Its case load is now 10,280, the highest in the state. A total of 104 patients were also discharged, taking the number of recoveries to 9,259. The district’s recovery rate is 90.06%. With the rising number of cases, Faridabad still has 96 containment zones.
