Panipat woman, who was first swine flu case reported in Ambala, died due to heart failure


AMBALA: A seriously ill 22-year-old woman of Panipat district having several health complications after delivering a child was on Monday reported positive for swine flu in Ambala, after her death on Sunday said Ambala civil surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh.
On February 19, the woman delivered a child, and then she suffered postpartum dilated cardiomyopathy and pneumonia and other serious complications. The woman had come to cardiac centre running on public-private partnership (PPP) model at the civil hospital, Ambala Cantonment, for getting treatment of serious heart ailment. She died on March 22 due to heart failure and was also reported positive for swine flu after her death”, told Dr Pooja, a senior medical officer (SMO) in Ambala Cantonment.
Dr Kuldeep said as the woman died in the midst of coronavirus outbreak, her family members insisted to take her samples for examining coronavirus. “Following, we collected her samples for clinical examination of Covid-19 as well as swine flu on Sunday, after her death. She tested negative for Covid-19 but positive for the swine flu in the reports that we received on next day”, said Dr Kuldeep.
Clearing the doubt about home district of the deceased woman, Dr Pooja told, “The woman is not a resident of Ambala district but she had visited here for heart treatment from Panipat district.”
Claiming about no other positive case of swine flu in Ambala district, Dr Kuldeep said, “In some cases, while collecting samples for examining suspects of Covid-19, we are taking samples examining swine flu as well. So far, no positive case has been reported from Ambala district and the woman was a resident of Panipat.”
Dr Kuldeep said, “The health department at Panipat district has been alerted about the swine flu case so that all necessary preventive measures are taken well in time in the woman’s locality.”
